Donut Soup

This week started with a bang. I woke up Monday morning with a sore throat, then throughout the day I was sneezing constantly, and by the end of the afternoon I had a headache that made me want to curl up in a ball and fall asleep.

But alas, I have children. And a husband who works two jobs. So sleep had to wait.

Turns out Tuesday didn't like me either, because I woke up feeling like I'd just been hit by a truck. I had a fever, my muscles were aching, and I felt like someone was constantly hitting me in the head with a sledgehammer. It didn't help that Braelyn came crawling into our bed early Tuesday morning wanting to sleep with us, especially when I already had Evie in our bed. NyQuil was calling for me.

I was a bad mom on Tuesday. I pretty much let Braelyn watch whatever movies she wanted while I laid on the couch, unwilling to move. Before Mike left for work, he told Braelyn she needed to "be nice to Mommy, and very helpful because Mommy doesn't feel well." Braelyn responded by making me some "soup" and constantly checking my forehead for a fever. Bless her heart.

And then there was today. I'm still sick, but according to Braelyn I'm "sounding much better today"--that's up for debate.  Somehow I had the energy to get dressed, make my bed, do some laundry, take a shower, and go grocery shopping. The grocery shopping was probably a bad idea, but we literally had no food in our fridge.

This is what I love about her--she's sick and STILL SMILING

Little Miss Evie just wanted to nurse and be held all day. The second I put her down she was wide awake and very aware that I was no longer holding her. During a diaper change I noticed she was warm and I thought I should check her temperature. When I came out into the living room I noticed Braelyn had gotten into my nail polish and had a disgusted look on her face. She was also trying to wipe something off her tongue.

"BRAELYN! Did you eat nail polish?!"

"But Mom, I just trying to get dis outta my mouf, cause it tastes bad"

"Braelyn did you put nail polish in your mouth?!" I ask again.

"Yes, I did, I'm sorry Mommy."

At this point I panicked a little. Is this normal? Is she poisoned? Maybe I should call poison control.

I made her spit anything that was in her mouth out, gargle water, and then I wiped the inside of her mouth out with a wet washcloth. Still unsure, I called poison control. Turns out it's not really a big deal until they, like, drink a whole bottle of nail polish. Good to know.

So yeah, she's still alive.

Her OOTD--Uggs and a tank top, clearly she cant decide on a season

I was frazzled more than once today. Couldn't get my 3-month old to nap. And the dishes piling up in the sink, messy living room, and stacks of laundry started to get to me. Oh and when I told Braelyn to stop torturing Bella (our cat)--including all hitting and screaming--she stormed off and said "I don't care. I hate people." Seriously? Where does she get this stuff?!

It's days like these where I miss being kid-less. Remember when you got to stay home from school while your mom nursed you back to health? Those were the days. Even at 25, when I'm sick, I just want my mom ;). No one knows how to make you feel more nurtured than she does!

Then again, my mom never made me donut soup! Maybe my 3-year old is useful after all ;).

Behold--my soup

I'm curious...what do you do with your kids when you're feeling under the weather? I feel really guilty about all the T.V. watching yesterday, but really just wanted to do nothing other than lay down. Help?!
