We're Married!!

Well, I’m ashamed to say it’s almost been 3 months since I last blogged. Terrible I know, what is the point of having a blog if I don’t use it? With that in mind, I am now determined to blog more often! I will TRY to do it once a week, but I will make no promises. Now that the semester is over for both Mike and I, life is somewhat calmer so my blog posts may benefit from that :). Again I will make no promises.

I’m sure all of you already know, but we’re finally married! We were married April 23, 2011. The ceremony was on the smaller side, mostly family and a few close friends, but it felt intimate and still beautiful which is what I really wanted. Plus we had a tight budget and the space only had room for 100 people, and boy do we have a lot of family! Anyway, I’m sincerely sorry if you didn’t get an invite, :( I know there were so many people I wanted to invite, Mike too, but family was our first priority. The planning was more than stressful! Luckily my mom and Gracie flew in from California three days before the wedding to help pull all the loose strings together. There were some that weren’t all pulled together, but I learned to let them go. There were a few mishaps on the day, as I suppose any normal wedding will have. For humor’s sake, let’s break them down for you from the beginning.

1. On our way out the door, 10 minutes from home I realize we forgot our marriage license! Oops! We turned around and were 10 minutes late to get ready.
2. Ten minutes AWAY from Wadley Farms I go to look at my vows and I realize I grabbed the wrong piece of paper! Too late to turn around now, I had to improvise. Mike was quite disappointed as he already read my vows and thought they were perfect. From the second I realized I didn’t have them I started trying to remember what I originally had written down...but my mind was blank.
3. Already late, I run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to make sure everyone who is already there to help set up, is doing something. My mom was doing this as well, but I didn’t give her a list of everything that was on my mind so I felt I needed to double check everything myself.
4. Too busy trying to make sure everything is set up, that Braelyn is ready, and that Mike knows what to do and where to be, I realize that A. It’s now a quarter to eleven B. I am the bride and C. I have 15 minutes to get my make up on, my dress on, and write my vows! Yikes a bee!
5. So I write my vows on the only piece of paper Gracie can find...a piece of a brown paper bag. You know, the ones you get from the grocery store when the nice bagger says “paper or plastic”? Somehow, I feel like the vows I wrote this time were better than the first, and I even think I got them all in there somewhere. Mission impossible is now Mission possible :). EXCEPT I ended up being 20 minutes late to my own wedding. Sorry guys!
6. The ceremony went pretty well except I was balling (which I NEVER DO). I don’t cry. It’s that simple. Somehow I managed to cry as I was walking down the aisle, reading my vows, and listening to Mike read his. Ya, it’s safe to say my eyes weren’t dry the entire time.
7. The reception was really fun. Crepe eating, dancing, cake cutting, bouquet tossing, garter tossing, speech toasting, fun! A few hiccups..we ran out of plates for food at the reception and after the dancing and tossing Wadley Farms started cleaning up tables. BEFORE WE HAD EVEN CUT THE CAKE. Weird? Yes. Annoying? Even more so. A good way to turn me from a happy bride to the dreadful bridezilla? Most definitely. It was handled, but it was completely unnecessary stress! Wadley Farms may or may not get a piece of my or my mother’s mind some time soon.
8. Last of all, Mike may or may not have almost dropped me during our first dance when he dipped me. I made the mistake of not fastening my dress to it’s bustle hook thingy, so I was stepping all over it and Mike slipped on it as he dipped me. It gave us something to laugh about which I’m thankful for, I guess? Okay no I’m not, but it will be something I’ll always remember.

Those are the events that kind of stuck with me as not being “ideal”, but in the end the important thing was that I got to marry my best friend in front of all the people who love us. It was beautiful and I know for a fact that a lot of people shed some tears, so I guess I did my job...right? ;) Thank you everyone for sharing in our special day! Hopefully we’ll get our pictures back VERY soon! I’m dying to see them and relive it, mishaps and all. A special shout out to my cousins and Brody's Girlfriend Laura who stayed up late the night before to make the yummy favors you all enjoyed so much (and I’ve heard it from everyone) the cake balls were a HIT Amanda! Job well done :) Everyone helped so much, Mike and I couldn’t be more thankful to you all!

  1. Haha I thought it turned out fabulously, and all those hiccups you will remember fondly-im sure. As for the people at Wadley Farms, they totally sucked-but it was beautiful there and that's what people will remember. congrats sher, mike, & braelyn!

  2. I love that you recorded all these hiccups, most of which I had no idea about! I didn't even notice the Wadley people cleaning up until your mom pointed it out to me. Maybe I'm particularly unobservant, but I'm guessing a lot of people didn't notice any of these slight inconveniences, either. But honestly, it's the mishaps that make us human and give us things to laugh about! I was smiling the whole time I read your list. Jared and I took it a step further than you - we forgot to even get our marriage until the night before! Luckily, we had just enough time to get it before our sealing at 9:45. Phew.

I'm glad the cake balls were a hit. It was fun to help out. I love you and Mike and Braelyn and am so happy for you all!
