Back to the Grind

Well school started again, and once again I'm busier than I really want to be. It's nice having something to get done everyday, but some-day's I wish I could just spend the ENTIRE day either playing with Braelyn, instead of encouraging her to play on her own while I study, or studying without constantly being interrupted by a very needy 16-month old.  Grrr, if only there were two of me. My course load this semester is sure to be a challenging one. Last semester I could get away without doing all of my assigned reading before the class--or not doing it at all and still get an A, but not this semester. I have three English courses this semester which require a TON of reading; and not particularly stuff that I enjoy. I mean come on, who enjoys reading Plato? Not me. Luckily I have ASL to keep me sane. That class is so easy and so much fun, I forget it's even school. I am SO glad I decided on ASL and not French or Spanish for my language requirement. Yay me :).

On top of more work, another thing that kind of stinks about this semester is that I couldn't get away with having all evening classes :(. It just wasn't possible with the class schedules they had this semester. Plus the English department is relatively small compared to the larger ones like Business; so the options for class selections are pretty limited. Anyway, I ended up with a morning class Tuesday and Thursday from 12:25 to 1:45. I originally had a M,W,F morning class but I ended up dropping it to accommodate another class I wanted to add. It ended up working out well because the child care center on campus had an opening for Tuesday and Thursday at the exact time I needed! I was so excited. I had a lot of people offering to watch Braelyn, but in the end I decided it was SO much more convenient to have her there on campus with me, rather than dropping her off and picking her up on my way there and on my way home. It's been an interesting experience walking around campus with a baby, I can't even tell you how many strange looks I get. You'd think that people would smile because A. Braelyn is cute and B. I should be admired for even pursing an education with a baby; but no, I get looks like "what are you doing here, with a baby" or "she must be crazy". Oh well, I'm not paying for a social life I'm paying for an education.

The transition to a day care center hasn't been that easy, but Braelyn is doing well. The other day when I dropped her off they were eating lunch, so before I left I sat her down and began to get her lunch out and ready. Well, the little girl that was sitting next to her dropped her sippy cup off the table and just looked at it and said "uh-oh". I said it too. So what did Braelyn do? She bent over and picked it up. I almost stopped her because I was afraid she'd start to drink it, but then she set it back on the table in front of the little girl's plate. Right where it belongs. How freaking cute is that?! Braelyn has such a sweet personality. She is ALWAYS wanting to help me do things, when I ask her to help me clean up her toys-she does. She is so helpful and sweet, I love it.

Watching her pick up the sippy cup also makes me stop and realize that our kids can surprise us, if we just give them the opportunity. I could have easily taken the cup away from her, afraid that she would drink it, before she even had the chance to prove me wrong. I'm glad I didn't. It was worth the suspense :). Our kids need to trust us, but more importantly they need to know that we trust them. Let them show you they can be trusted before you assume they'll misbehave. You may be surprised. :)
